Hi Jana, this hyena enclosure seems to be a bit bigger than usual enclosures for predator species. Do you know approximately how many square metres is it?
Or can we see a separating technic from an other enclosure in the middle of the picture? So what we can see in the picture is just the hyena enclosure or not?
Hi, there are 2 enclosures for brown hyenas side by side, divided by dry moat. I have just aploaded a picture taken last May where you can see the construction and the dry moats. Each enclosure has about 1200m2.
Thanks for the info and the new photo. Does Praha Zoo is succesful in breeding of this rarely exhibited species?
In the history - yes. In the 70. and 80. there were some hand-reared cubs. In the late 90. the pair Burr and Barbie raised their cubs theirself. But later (2001?) the breeding has been stopped because no other zoo wanted the offspring and the small enclosure was full (at one moment over 10 animals) - the pair has been separated and both are dead now. But there are now 2 new pairs and everybody hopes they will start to breed.
