      Here is a quiz - let\'s see who can be the first ZooChatter to post a reply as to why they are called military macaws.

      I think they are called that because they were first imported into Europe from Mexico by men serving in the military there.

      They are called military macaws because of their green "uniforms" and red "berets".

      Ituri is the winner. (Don't know what prize you get though). As I understand it, their feathers are the same shade of green as the Spanish military at the time.
