Blackduiker But very nicely renovated. The lush, dense shrubbery makes it the perfect habitat for this species.
Renovated? I dont remember any renovation, as far as I can remember, but may be I am too young In fact it is one of the oldest exhibits in Prague zoo (from 1930ies). If I remember well, this is the only exhibit build according to Hagenbecks plan for zoo. Originally inhabeted by wolves. I dont know when red pandas changed the wolves here.
I think red pandas moved in around 1995-1997? after refurbishing of the former very barren pit with some mock rock and plants. It was designed for and inhabited by wolves at the very beginning. But most of the time, it was a home for bears - kodiaks, carpathian brown bears etc.
Jana, I think red pandas are in this exhibit longer time. I remember my first visit of Prague zoo. It was in 1993 when I was 8 years old. And red panda were in the same place as now...I am absolutely sure as I feel the excitement of seeing panda first time in my life.
I was not sure with the years, thats why I wrote ? behind. But 1989 there were still bears inside. So the change occured sometime in between.
