How many lions? Male or female? potential breeders?

We saw 1.1 - both doing the typical big cat thing and stretched out sound asleep! I can't tell you any more than that I'm afraid - one of our Czech colleagues may have more information.

      Lions currently at Prauge are.....

Pentagon (m) born 2002 at Lodz Zoo, Poland
Aiesha (f) born 2001 at Bristol Zoo, UK

So yes they are a potential breeding pair but as far as we are aware they have not bred yet.

Both are going really well together and there are regular pairings, but so far no offspring. I know the zoo planned to do an AI on them, but don´t know if they´ve proceeded with it yet. But it sounded like there is a little chance, even with AI, to have any cubs. I don´t know if there is a health problem with the male or female.

Prague has little luck with Asians. Even the previous girl-friend of Pentagon (Max is his house name here) Kalu from Burford was diagnosticed infertile and she was sent as an "exhibit-only animal" to France 2 years ago (Le Pal).

      Beat me to it...

The lions in Europe are very inbred - this pair are sort of distantly related...

Aiesha's mother was Moti. Moti's father was Vanaraj, who also fathered Luei, the mother of Pentagon...

      Or the other way around...

Aiesha's father is Rajah. Rajah's mother is Chandani, who had a sister called Ruchi. Ruchi was the mother of Pentagon's father, Bruno...

      Get the idea.
