      This male is the only captive specimen of Cambodia\\\'s national bird - a critically endangered species. These photos aren\\\'t as I\\\'d have liked, but this big bird wanted to be difficult.

      Fantastic! I've included a major part for this bird in the novel I'm finishing up.

      And another candidate for the list of species that might do very well in captivity (ibises generally do), would probably gain from a captive breeding programme and seem unlikely to get one. Bird Life International give a total population estimate, made last year, of 230 birds.

      I was very lucky. This unique big bird was a highlight of Cambodia for me.
