      this is a cormorant, I would guess the Neotropic cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus); I haven't got any books near me at the moment to see which other species may be found in the area

      great shot, i love this! I was quite surprised to see this was taken in Rio. Are we sure it's not the double breasted?

      Thanks, and welcome. Do you mean P. auritus? I don't think they occur as far south as Brazil.
