Aalborg Zoo - Tropical House (Black caiman)

A black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) inside the Tropical House in Aalborg Zoo.Aalborg Zoo is one of only 7 zoos in Europe keeping black caimans. The black caimans arrived in 2011 replacing the American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) that used to inhabit this exhibit, originally built for slender-snouted crocodiles (Mecistops cataphractus). The Tropical House is a good example of 1980’es zoo architecture and features mostly reptiles but also a few small mammals, birds, amphibians and fish. July 2012
