American Crocodile at Protivin Crocodile Zoo, 26/05/10

Crocodylus acutus Only my second unquestionable American Croc. NOTE: Strictly speaking, you're not allowed to take photos at all at this zoo. However, the first thing we were greeted with was a member of staff taking flash photos with a large camera of a disagreement between two Mugger Crocs, so they clearly have no concerns about the animals' response to being photo'd. Given that, as a open-to-the-public collection, there is no question of prvacy or secrecy, the rule seems to smack of nothing more than officiousness. The contents of the building are public, and the rule does not seem to exist for the animals' benefit. So I discreetly disregarded it. ;)

      Nice photo Maguari.
I've yet to see an American Crocodile myself.
Never heard of this collection before.

Thanks - I love spiky this one is!

The previous one I saw was at Rome, but that has now gone. I understand the animal long labelled as Orinoco at Berlin is in fact an American; if so Protivin's is my third.

Funny how the only two European zoos holding american crocodiles both have names along the lines of "crocodile zoo". Or at least according to Zootierliste.

One of three crocodilian species at the collection which would be lifeticks for me; unfortunately, given the fact that I believe they have been enforcing the no-photography rule even more virulently than ever of late I suspect this is a collection I will elect to skip when visiting the Czech Republic - I am entirely happy to visit a collection and not bother to take photographs, or to refrain where there is a reason to do so, but I feel that visiting a collection where it is prohibited for no actual reason would frustrate me far too much :p
