Nordsøen Oceanarium - Fin whale skeleton

Nordsøen Oceanarium - Fin whale skeleton

In February 2016, a fin whale beached at the beach of Blokhus which is quite close to Hirtshals, the hometown of Nordsøen Oceanarium. In June 2016, the aquarium received the skeleton of the now-deceased whale and chose to display in order to teach the public about whales in Danish seas. The main exhibition on whales is not in this building, though, but in the adjacent building "Hvalforskerhytten". In fact, this building had no exhibitions when I visited as it was being renovated and was due for an official re-opening a few days after my visit.

      July 2017.
