      Are they often found in flowerpots, or is that just a name given due to the size?

      they are often found in flowerpots (i.e. around human habitation) - they are burrowing snakes and have been spread all around the world in this way.

      Actually, their correct name is Brahminy Blind Snake, but they're better known as Flowerpot Snakes.
