      I have no idea what that is. There are about 30 species of galaxiids in NZ but most of them don't get very large. It doesn't really look like a Short-jawed Kokopu or Banded Kokopu. It might be a really big Koaro, but it doesn't really look like that either.

      I think I'd be most inclined towards Koaro.

      Looking at the small thumbnail (so getting a "general impression" of the fish, rather than concentrating on any details), it does look just like a Koaro.

      I think the perspective makes it look bigger than it was. It was smaller than the Kokopus and very slim. I just wasn't sure if there's other similar species to Koaro.

      ah, okay. Koaro do get quite large but then they tend to get chunky as well (all the larger galaxiids do). The kokopu species have deep bodies too which was confusing me here, because that fish clearly doesn't.

      If it isn't actually particularly large, then I'd say it is a Koaro. They tend to be quite bolshy as well (if it was harassing the Giant Kokopu).

      It isnt likely to be any non-whitebait galaxiid species.
