Copenhagen Zoo - Babirusa/pig hybrids

In august 2006, a world sensation was born in Copenhagen Zoo. Three young babirusa/pig hybrids. These may have changed genetic research as we know it, since sientist did not believe that two such different species could breed. This is a photo of the domestic pig mother and the piglets. As you can see, one is babirusa coloured, one is a mix of pale and grey, and the last one is just pale. Taken in Copenhagen Zoo, 2006.

Have you got any photos showing the hybrids as adults?

There are two other pics here in the gallery, where they are a bit older, but I have none of how they look now. I will try to get a good shot next time I'm at the zoo :)

Will they stay at the zoo?

I'm not sure, but I think so. The babirusa male is not listed on ISIS anymore, and I have not seen him for while (haven't really looked either). So they will probably get the enclosure for them selves, if he has in fact moved out. I will check it and reply here what I have found out.

does anyone have any photos or links to photos of the hybrids as adults (if they survived)? I couldn't find anything by googling. I'd be especially interested if any are males and what their tusks would look like!

As far as I know, they got some kind of unknown bacteria back in 2008, so they are not alive anymore

thanks for that. It would have been interesting to see the adult males.
