      I was told by a keeper that the turaco is a different subspecies than the one kept by other zoos in the US. I'm not sure what ssp that is, though..

      Well after checking on Wikipedia, it certainly looks like a purple-crested turaco

      It is a Purple-Crested Turaco, but there are two subspecies of those. Apparently this is a rare one but I do not know what one that'd be.

      T. p. porphyreolophus is the nominate species, while T. p. chlorochlamys is the other. From what I read, it looks to be the former.

      Seems like, from looking at photos on Google, the subspecies chlorochlamys doesn't have the pinky wash over the breast that porphyreolophus does (as in the bird in the photo above), but is just plain green.

      Took care for both subspecies and the one on the picture is indeed nominate porphyreolophus.
