I was expecting to find Sulawesi palm civets in this enclosure, but felt these might be a more common species. @FunkyGibbon do these look like the animals you think might be golden palm civets?

      That's an interesting civet.

It's not a Sulawesi Civet I don't think - the head-shape looks wrong, and there shouldn't be any spotting (although I don't know if young ones have spotting). Although I found a photo of a Sulawesi Civet there, which just adds to all the interesting rare species they have/had!

It's not a Golden Civet though.

It has a general form reminiscent of a Small-toothed Palm Civet, but it isn't one.

I think it most likely to be a Common Palm Civet, although it lacks a mask.

I haven't any mammal guides here to check properly.

@Chlidonias I agree entirely. I thought this was probably a common palm civet but didn't get to the bottom of it. A google image search for 'palm civet' or 'kopi luwak' (and combinations) yield several photos of very similar animals.

My gut instinct is that this is one of the animals signed as Golden Palm Civet, but I certainly never got as a good a look at one as this. Thing is, Asian Palm Civets were signed next door and I'm not sure TSB has a reputation for that kind of mistake?

I suppose a big question is where exactly in the zoo was this animal?

In the nocturnal house, it's difficult to describe beyond that. Was that not where you found yours? I'll ask friends who are visiting soon to try and get photos of the other civets too. :)
I think there was a lone masked civet held nearby? I'll check my photos this evening.

Worth noting that FunkyGibbon's photo has a striped civet on the left, which looks like it might be (an overly-plump!) Small-toothed Palm Civet, but could also be a Common Palm Civet.

In Feb, entering the nocturnal house from the 'entrance' side (so that you do the nocturnal exhibits first then the reptiles), I encountered two civet enclosures (not the first in the building), one signed for Asian Palm Civet and one for Golden Palm Civet. Also might be worth noting that they were signed as Paradoxurus aureus not P. zeylonensis.
For sure TSB will be getting an uptick in visits in the near future so this should be resolved.
