Is this a 24-hour 'wildpark' that is fairly common in Germany and essentially never closes? Also, how long would it take someone to walk around and see the captive animals?

@snowleopard Exactly, that's how I understood it (i don't speak german tho). We were lucky and all the fallow deer were right inside the gate when we came there so we did not have to walk around looking for them.

We walked to the boar eclosure tho, but that is pretty close and I would say that we were there for around 1 hour and we saw all animals except the Red deers as we thought they also were Fallow deers and never went to their enclosure. But if we would have gone there too it probably would have taken 1,5-2 hours to see all the animals.

It seems to me that Tiergarten Hannover could be counted as a legitimate 'zoo', even though there are less than 5 species on the grounds. Only around 30 minutes away is Wisentghege, another wild-park type zoological attraction. Then there is Sea Life Hannover and Hannover Zoo to make for an ultra-packed zoo day. Although, Tiergarten Hannover could be visited in the wee hours of the morning as it looks like a 24-hour park, plus the Sea Life would only take an hour or less, and so that really only leaves two zoos for the day. :p

@snowleopard Actually if you like poultry, Tiergarten Hannover got an aviary with different breeds of pigeons/doves and chickens as well.
And in the spring/summer it's apparently a good spot if you want to see some wild Egyptian geese. When we were there we "only" saw one lonely greylag goose.

I had no idea about "Wisentgehege"! Next time maybe!
And btw, I think Berggarten in Hannover got some animals as well, some birds and reptiles/fishes (or something like that?) - but I wouldn't call it a zoo.
