      Bruce, the short-beaked echidna, has been moved to the newly revamped Nocturnal House. He's on the side that used to hold fruit bats and, more recently, meerkats. He was asleep under his lamp on my first visit, but moving towards a hollow log on my second. The sign seemingly suspended in mid air is a reflection!

      Looks good. I suppose being indoors they can control the temperature of his environment a lot better, which might make him more active.

      Yes, that could be the thinking behind the move.

      In a recent BBC nature film about Australian wildlife, the most memorable sequence was an echidna walking across a snowfield in the mountains in broad daylight. Of course the species has a very wide range in Australia, and I have no idea of Bruce's original locality.

      Can't exactly make him more active than he already was :p

      Was he just as active, in his old enclosure, in the winter months as he was in summer?

      @Benosaurus

      I've only ever seen him in the winter months - the first time in January 2012 and the second time in December 2016 - and he was constantly active on both occasions.

      Wow. So if I visited and couldn't see him, would it be frowned upon if I decided to turn the thermostat down slightly? :D
