      Ahhhhh! Another abandoned Land Rover in a lion exhibit! :mad:
    • jayjds2
      @Arizona Docent is there a problem with it? The lions certainly don’t seem to think so.
    • Arizona Docent
      @jayjds2 Yes it is hideously ugly and does not serve any educational purpose. I mean is the Serengeti really littered with abandoned Land Rovers that lions now utilize?
    • jayjds2
      Perhaps, but zoos have many purposes beyond education. The presence of such an object provides a novelty for visitors who may not expect it, and as I already mentioned, it appears to be enriching (or beneficial in some way at least) to the lions as well. Zoo exhibits do not have to be perfectly naturalistic or immersive to be good - so again, what’s the harm?

      @jayjds2 Obviously we have different expectations (and will never agree on this, so I am going to let it go here). But for me zoo exhibits do have to be perfectly naturalistic or immersive to be good.

      I'm also not a fan of the standard Landrover in Lion-enclosures because you see it in almost every second zoo. For the "normal" zoo-visitor which may visit one or two zoos in a year ( or even less ) such an item is ofcouse very original and as jayids2 said, if also the lions don't have problems with it - and even make use of it - then I gues we have to live with it ;).

      @Arizona Docent

      But for mezoo exhibits do have to be perfectly naturalistic or immersive to be good.

      And yet you rank Wildlife Heritage Foundation as the best zoo in the UK despite the exhibits there being neither ;) :p

      I have never seen a land rover in a lion exhibit.
