Wow. I've seen them many years ago at Howletts, but I think, all of them died now, so probably there is just one animal left at the Paris Mengagerie Jardin du Plantes, if I'm correct.

was this the zoo that had pandas?
    • Tim May
Yes, there was a male giant panda “Yen-Yen” at Vincennes Zoo, Paris, from 1973 until 2000. This animal always seemed to be much more active than most of the giant pandas that I’ve seen in other zoos.

ahh, thanks. and i believe that howletts, port lympne + Paris were the only zoo's outside of India to exhibit these species.

I've seen them at (West) Berlin, as well.

In addition, there are quite a few other former holders listed at Zootierliste - 15 zoos in total, including London and the Earl of Derby's Menagerie:

ohh, im sorry. i cant remember where i found out that infomation, but it made it quite specific that only those 3 zoo's were given them, and they were more of a 'gift' to each of the zoo's.

Think i correct in saying Naples Zoo also had them,
    • Maguari
      Yep, they're one of Zootierliste's 15. :)

I've seen some of them in japan.

Ohh goodness, I must have been wrong then. I'll have a look through my howletts guide book from the late 80's later to see if I can dig out where I read that infomation from:)
