Sahel; Great Aviary Signage

Didn't see Hottentot teal or Shoveler. Did see a Superb starling though which is not featured on the sign.

      Who needs latin names anyway?! ...
    • ralph
      There isn't any English education either.

      Absolutely. It's really disappointing that after all this time, and all that money spent, a zoo operated by a museum doesn't think labelling matters..:(

      most of these are obvious to me with my smattering of French and knowing a bit about birds, but what is a Chevalier gambette? A redshank?
    • IanRRobinson
      Correct, and if they'd bothered to add Tringa totanus to the label we would have known immediately...:rolleyes:

      Ugh. Not good at all. Two little words too much to add to each sign? Really?

      I tend to think zoos wherever they are should at least have common names in a few languages, but at the bare minimum the scientific name should be there with the name in the zoo's local language. Really, it should. There's no excuse.

      @Childonias you're right! it's a redshank (Tringa totanus)

      I agree with the lack of Scientific names, but...The drawings are not sufficient? Really?
