It's always so fascinating to see older pictures of these animals; especially now that there are none left in any zoo facilities, and less than 100 in existence.

Ah Rapunzel. I imagine this is actually the first Sumatran Rhinoceros I ever saw, not that I would remember her at all. Thankfully I managed to see Suci and Harapan at Cincinnati while they were still there. It's a shame such beautiful animals never succeeded in captivity. I don't think this enclosure even exists anymore.

Wasn't they in the Zoo Center ? But I assume this place have changed since 1990 ..

@Clem Yes she was exhibited in the ZooCenter. If I'm not mistaken, her enclosure was later given to a Malayan Tapir that didn't like to go outside until 2014 when they razed that half of the building to build their new Komodo Dragon and Aldabra Giant Tortoise pens. Personally I wish they just altered the existing enclosure for the new species as I'm not a huge fan of the replacements. The tortoise yard in particular I find disappointing.

Actually Rapunzel's exhibit is where the tortoise yard is currently; the yard was a little bit larger since the trail visitors now walk alongside the tortoise yard was part of the exhibit. The Malayan tapir were in the other exhibit that was split into two komodo dragon exhibits. I rarely ever saw the tapirs in the outside yard though.

@bigfoot410 Ah yes, the old babirusa yard as I knew it. I'm surprised though as I remember that enclosure being rather darker (due to tree cover) and bar of grass. Babirusas are usually not destructive enough to tear up grass in an enclosure.

@ThylacineAlive even when the rhino was in that enclosure there was very little grass, but a mud wallow and a lot of shade. I forgot that they had babirusa there after Rapunzel left. I like the tortoise exhibit; even though they get so close to visitors that idiots feed and pet them sometimes! The komodo dragon exhibits look better.

@bigfoot410 Interesting, I've seen seen a photo of Rapunzel without grass. I feel the tortoise exhibit is too small for four full grown animals. I feel as though the original yard with increased sunlight would have been significantly better personally.
