      Did you have any trouble from the macaques there? I didn't go but I have read a lot about how aggressive they are because of the tourists feeding them.

      A really big deal is made of them (there are even 'monkey zones' marked on the map), but personally I didn't have any problems whatsoever. I bought a robust staff at the approach to the zone I passed through which is recommended; possibly that's why I had no trouble.

      I tend to find that if threatened by a macaque, picking up a stick makes them even more aggressive rather than making them back off.

      @Chlidonias Presumably not in this case, since almost everyone they see will be carrying a stick.
