Very nice exhibit I think.

Siberian Cranes don't live in woodland! - a quote from the inter-web... "These cranes feed and nest primarily in marshes, bogs and other wetlands where there are wide reaches of shallow fresh water with good visibility. They live mainly in lowland tundra, taiga biogeographic, and taiga/tundra transition regions".
Very jealous of any zoo with lovely natural woodland and water - and ditto the Siberian Cranes themselves, too!
But, despite their huge wealth, PD seems to get quite a lot, just a little wrong?

@Andrew Swales They may have an inappropriate habitat, but they do have a funny wooden man to brighten their lives. You win some, you lose some....

I don't think it is a bad exhibit as the woodland is fairly open and relatively moist/wet, and because the exhibit also has plenty of water and watersides for foraging.

Yes, it is not exactly a copy of the natural habitat of Siberian cranes, but I do believe their needs are met in this exhibit.

So Pairi Daiza may have gotten some things wrong with this one, it is definitely not the most egregious example of inappropriate habitat at this zoo.

@sooty mangabey Although, this funny wooden fellow seems to have something in his right hand... not sure what or if it's just the way it's appearing...

Certainly not a bad exhibit at all, quite the opposite - but just a bit of a shame it could be used for something a little more fitting...

I thought that given all the other agricultural 'props' at PD this could be a carved scare-crow?, although I have never seen such before. It certainly appears to be very old. The holes could be from shot-gun pellets, and the object in his hand a fake gun...

@Andrew Swales I also thought this wasn't quite right for Siberian cranes when I went there. It has plenty of shallow water but all the woodland trees make it very closed in. They were nesting back in May and the male was quite aggressive toward me through the fence. I don't know if they bred successfully though.
