Javan Lutong, Jungle world

Once home to proboscis monkeys... *please bring them back please bring them back please bring them back to the nth degree*

How many langurs were on exhibit? In recent years they were down to 4 and now from the looks of it even less

I have spent quite some time there, but could not see more than these two individuals. The Silver leaf monkeys were at least ten, though.

Has the floor always been so green? It looks like the plantings must be new.

(I also second the movement for a return of proboscis monkeys, as unlikely as that may be)

Only 0.2 Javan Langurs remain unfortunately In better news, the zoo is just shy of 20 Silvery Lead Monkeys last I heard!

As for the grass, I think it's the result of the aging primates not using the floor so much anymore so the grass has grown in. I'm not sure what will become of this habitat once the remaining langurs die off, but I imagine they will be replaced by Francois' Langurs (though I hope for Lion-Tailed Macaques!)

@Loxodonta Cobra In a mangrove-themed exhibit (first of all, wrong environment) where even the wrong soil can kill them off (second of all, husbandry issues)? I'd honestly see them in a habitat akin to Bronx' Wolf's guenon habitat, where there are natural elements but it is for the most part sterile. Zoo Chleby has them in an absolutely sterile environment (and even had them successfully breed IIRC)

Are the Javan langurs are being phased out of AZA zoos?

@Matthew Guimac Yes as there are very few langurs left in the US. In fact, I think these are the only two left in the AZA. EAZA has a thriving population, though.
