Goura scheepmakeri?

Goura scheepmakeri?
    • amur leopard
      I believe so having looked at all four Goura species, although should you really be needing to ask this question given your Zoochat name? ;)
      Just kidding :p

      Looks like scheepmakeri to me as well. The red that's on the belly but not extended to the neck and back, the relatively small white spot and the characteristic head-plumes all point toward G. scheepmakeri
    • Chlidonias
      No, it is Goura sclaterii.
    • Jarne
      @Chlidonias with sclateri the neck is also red, with the red ending right before the head. Besides that Goura sclaterii has a quite a large white spot compared to the G. scheepmakeri and G. cristata. The spot looks way to small to be sclaterii.

      Perhaps a hybrid? It has characteristics of both G.scheepmakeri and G.sclaterii. For the record WRS does not list any G.scheepmakeri in Jurong's collection.

      I think @Zooish may well be correct, and that it is a hybrid - the neck colouration matches sclateri, and the belly colouration looks midway between sclateri and scheepmakeri, but the wing colouration is spot-on for scheepmakeri.

      @TeaLovingDave How is the wing colouration "spot-on" for scheepmakeri when it is completely different?

      It may well be a hybrid now that it has been brought up. I don't know that Jurong has ever had true scheepmakeri, and if it's a hybrid I'd be inclined to think sclaterii X cristata. Jurong used to keep their crowned pigeons mixed to some degree and I know there were hybrids resulting.

      @Chlidonias

      I got my taxa mixed up in my head whilst writing the comment :p I meant to say that the neck colouration matched scheepmakeri (with a distinct blue neck as opposed to the red extending to the jawline as is the case with sclateri) and the wing colouration is spot-on for sclateri

      @amur leopard - indeed! it took a lot of courage to actually post it and ask the question! :(

      @Zooish I should add that this photo was taken some years ago and I have a photo of the signage which lists it as scheepmakeri. This is why I posted it to check if my photo actually did match up with the signage
