where is this in the park?
    • Azubaa
@iloveafrica At the end of the Amur Tiger enclosures is a bridge across the wetlands on the far side of the park. At the other end is the Ethiopian highlands, and past that is the new otters/red panda area. There is a map on their website: Park Map | Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Thanks for the photos @Azubaa. What were your views on the newly opened areas?

Seems like a very nice exhibit. What are the climbing structures and towers for?

@britishzoofan The new area is good, scenic, and has everything a typical but well done red panda/otter exhibit need. Possibly my favourite thing about the park is definitely shown here too: multiple viewing spots yet plenty of places for the inhabitants to hide. In that respect it’s executed very well, and this is consistent in almost every part of the park, from hyenas to leopards to saki monkeys etc. As usual it will only look better as time goes on, allowing for more trees and the bamboo plants to mature. Overall a solid new phase.

@MonkeyBat Yes, it’s well done. The structures I believe are for another species.

@Azubaa Good to hear they have produced another set of good quality enclosures. I will have to visit soon. Any sign of when the next phases will be ready and what they might contain?

@britishzoofan Yes for sure. My only indication as to what was being constructed was a large indoor house. It was bigger than the spotted hyena housing but very similar, so possibly a larger mammal species than them. I overheard a keeper saying they are sworn to secrecy, so I doubt we’ll know for some time. Construction was progressing quickly though, so I think it will be open by the end of the year, maybe sometime in autumn.
