View in renovated giant walk-through aviary, 2020-09-03

The renovations of the giant walk-through aviary included a major expansion of the water surface from 15% to about 40% of the total surface, the relocation of the visitor walkway towards the side of the aviary and the transfer of the access to a rope bridge adventure route to a location outside it.

Did you like the renovation job in this aviary? Does the structure work better for the birds now that the water area has tripled in size (approximately)?

@snowleopard I do appreciate the renovation actually, but I'm not entirely uncritical of it either.

I do think it works better for the wetland birds and waterfowl, who seemed to enjoy being in or at the side of the pool, visually it looks pretty good and I think the relocation of the visitor area also works quite well, but the pool expansion has eaten into the land area for land birds such as the seriemas, although they still have some space left for them. The portion of the new pool near the exit of the aviary was also fairly dirty with leaves and feathers, so they probably still have some trial and error to do in its maintenance and management.

I also appreciate that they removed the access to the rope bridge adventure route from the aviary and put it outside of it, as I particularly disliked the view and the clunking of that bridge inside the aviary.

That said, at some point Pairi Daiza on its Facebook page hinted at potentially getting new inhabitants for this aviary that require more water. But that doesn't seem to have happened, as most if not all of the species were the same as I saw in here last year.
