Tropical Rainforest - Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla)

This is Kwame. He was born at the Smithsonian National Zoo on November 20, 1999, and arrived at Woodland Park Zoo in September 2018, after Leo, the previous silverback, passed away in March 2018 after a brief illness at age 40.

Do you know if the zoo is planning on breeding Kwame with Akenji soon? She’s 20 years old or so and hasn’t ever had an infant so she should be bred ASAP. I know she was partially hand raised much like her half sister Nadiri so I wonder if it’ll take a while for her maternal instincts to kick in just like it did for Nadiri when she had both Yola and Zuna. Nevertheless, I have my fingers crossed another baby gorilla will be on its way soon at the zoo!
