Australian Aviary

This is a mixed aviary that is partially located in the pond of the Oceania section of Planckendael, which is why the aviary is also called Australian waterfront aviary. This aviary, as well as the entire Oceania section, opened in 1998.

      This is the species list of the aviary anno 2022:
      - Pied-Imperial Pigeon (Ducula bicolor)
      - Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles)
      - Chestnut teal (Anas castanea)
      - White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)
      - Australian wood duck (Chenonetta jubata)
      - Tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides)
      - Bush thick-knee (Burhinus grallarius)
      - Straw-necked ibis (Threskiornis spinicollis)
      The aviary also temporarily housed inca terns in 2020 and in the past housed, among other things,
      Glossy ibises, Plumed whistling ducks and Crested doves.
