I still can't belive that the new director want to "destroy" it and make it as a part of the asian free flight area. What is your opinion to the new bird house?

By the way, thank you so much for the pictures that you uploaded on the last days!

Part of the Asian free flight area, sure it is not the African area, that would make more sense...

Overall the new bird house is not too bad, but the only thing in which it is special is its size, what I really dislike is that there are so many small rather barren aviaries, instead of several larger nicely themed / furnished ones, which one would expect in a modern bird house. The Asian free flight is rather standard, both in terms of species and looks, the Australian one (this one) could be a lot nicer, especially regarding the bird species that one could keep here. The only part I am a real fan of is the neighbouring African free flight section, which has nice landscaping and a very nice set of species inhabiting it... The house is imo not ugly or bad, but it consists of so many missed opportunities that it is slightly disappointing, especially given the fact that it is not even 2 years old....

What are the director's plans for this house then?

From what I have read, he wants to combine the African with the Australian free flight parts, making it one large African one. Furthermore he wants to reduce the number of cages in the rest of the building, by creating larger aviaries.

I,m sorry but I find it difficult to say anything good about it. From the outside it looks like a concrete and stainless steel bird prison. The shiny mesh is hard to look through and the gauge is needlessly heavy. It could contain chimps never mind a few small softbills. Inside, apart from the free flight halls, the small aviaries are better suited to a museum than a modern zoo.
