Quetzal

During thr period 1986-1989 1 male and 2 females were kept together. 1992 a breeding attemp was made but the single chick died in the hand-raising station after 14 days. The adult male died 1995 and the last single female some years later, leaving the European continent without Quetzals.

      Really nice bird... Is it really this hard to keep them in captivity ?

      They are quite difficult to get úsed´to captive circumstances but once common with captivity they are not more difficult as other softbills - at least the 3 specimens I´ve taken care for. Proof is the age they reached at Walsrode ( = 20+ years !!! ).
