      How common are they in Australian zoos. I sure wish they'd let us exhibit some here in L.A.

      There are only 2 zoos on the planet with numbats. Cleland Wildlife Park has a solitary female (shown in this photo) and Perth Zoo has at least 30 or so....and that's all folks.:)

      Most of Perth's are off-show and the babies bred each year go into the local reintroduction programme. There is usually only one animal on display. Locally caught termites form a large part of the zoo diet. If you have a couple of days and are patient there are places not too far from Perth where you can see wild numbats, a truly magical experience.

      as Snowleopard pointed out, they are very uncommon in zoos. I didn't know there was one at Cleland, and it became one of the highlights of the park (for me anyway). I spent at least half an hour watching and photographing it.
