Do you guys have flocks of wild budgies flying around your neighborhoods? What kind of habitat do you find them in?

Well I certainly don't! They are found in open grasslands and arid regions in the centre of the country. They are found pretty much everywhere except for the far east coast, far south east, far north of Northern Territory and Tasmania.

I once did see a tiny flock of about 10 budgerigars about 15 minutes from my place, which is very suburban, but I never have seen any again.

l regularly drive 2 hours nth of Melbourne and at times deliberately take the back roads just to see the parrots.

As l am not a "bird guy" l could not name them but there must be at least 10 different species parrot that l see allot of all sorts of colours and sizes.

The most popular would be the galahs and sulphur crested cockatoos. They all seem reasonably well adjusted to people and cars, as l can stop and get out of the car if they are on the other side of the road they will often go about their business while keeping an eye on me.

However l have never seen a wild budgerigar.

About 20 years ago I was driving back to Sydney from Lake Cowal and I drove alongside a flock of budgies several-hundred strong. I slowed down to their speed so I could watch them fly, thwe behaviour that gave them their specific name undulatus. I've seen small flocks and pairs since then, but the memory of that first big flock still remains strong.
