The last boto (Amazonian river dolphin) outside of South America pool swimming in its 600.000 litre pool inside the Rio Negro tropical house in Duisburg Zoo, Germany. Rio Negro was built in 2005 and houses animals from the Rio Negro area in tropical South America.

In this picture you can see the boto triumphantly showing the fish that it has just caught. The boto is fed daily and I would advise all ZooChatters visiting Duisburg Zoo to see it. The boto is fed live fish and it is fascinating to see it hunting without it being able to see much.

The last female boto (the mother of the last one at Duisburg) died in 1976, one year after the arrival at Duisburg.

3,2 botos arrived at Duisburg in 1975, an old female died in 1975, the second female 1976, one male 1978 and one male 2006.
