Rundbau(Roundhouse) at Frankfurt Zoo

This little house was my favourite animal house at the Frankfurt Zoo. It was very old, opend in 1906, original for kangaroos, later for other marsupials and then for a great mix of other mammal and bird species. It was damaged during the second world war, but Grizmek rebuild it, not with the same look it has before the war, and again used for a great mix of very rare species. Four diffrent duiker species were kept in here between 1954 and 1989, for two years, all fpour species at the same time. For two years, visitors could see here warthogs, giant forest hog, red river hogs and white beaqrded peccaris at the same time, others species were two species tree kangaroos, aardvarks, giant anteaters, common and moutain tapirs, musk deer, ardwolfs and more. The inside and outside exhibits were small, but the animals doing very wellin this bulidinga nd teh zoo was very successful in breeding some duikers, tapirs, tree kangaroos, ardwolfs etc. in here. In the 70ty years, they changed the bigger species to little species and made the outside exhibits bigger and more natural. Unfortunately, the Roundhouse was destroyed in 2000 and now they have an exhibt for maned wolfs at this place. I've wrote an article about this fascinanting house for a german zoo magazine. It were so easy to save the building and rebuild it for two pig species or for tree kangaroos and wombats, for example.

      A lost treasure trove indeed.

Did the exhibits extend a full 360° around it?
