Artis - Lemurenland

The brand new Lemurenland walkthrough island in Artis Amsterdam. This island houses red ruffed lemurs in a very spacious environment with several live and mature trees for climbing in. A fantastic exhibit! I visited Artis the week that this new island opened in July 2008. I was such a joy to walk among them and seeing the climbing about in the trees after having seen them in their old and crammed exhibit in the Small Mammals House. July 2008

It is always a great feeling to see brand new, naturalistic exhibits open in zoos that used to hold the same animal species in cramped, outdated cages. Visiting terrific new enclosures is one of the best things about being an obsessed zoo fan.:)

Yes indeed, snowleopard:) My only concern with this exhibit is that the indoor facilities did not seem very big. Not sure how much time they spend outside during the winter. Still better than the old exhibits though.
