Melbourne's Orang-utan Sanctuary..

looking back at the exhibit. the orangs love it. they are clearly much more active and entertained by whats on offer. although the main enclosure has placed a priority on enrichment over a naturalistic immersion type exhibit, i think the matured trees where a clever addition. as they grow and mature the whole "look" of the exhibit will change. currently the apes seem little interested in destroying them when there is so much else to do..

I'd like to see more vegetation in this exhibit, but I've grown to like it over the past two years. The sway poles are hopefully used by the orangs, the platforms are extremely high, the indoor area is packed with climbing opportunities, and the apes can even disappear into their night quarters and not be seen by the public.

There is a lot more vegetation now. There is only one thing that I don't like about this exhibit and that is the wall along the back.
