      those are really unusual cichlids! I've never seen those before.

      Tanganyika is the largest and oldest of the Rift Valley lakes, so it has a very wide variety of endemic cichlids, with all sorts of strange specialisms. In evolutionary terms a lake in the middle of a continent is very similar to an island surrounded by an ocean.
