      How the hell does that fence keep bears in?!
      What species were they?

      The wooden fence is higher than what might appear in the photo, and inside the field is deeper, there are irons in the top to prevent the bears to climb.

      I seem to recall that there are hot wires too. The irons on the top are to stop visitors falling in and I would suggest a little lightweight to contain the bears.

      They are Brown Bears. I think I recall seeing about five of them.

      What prompts you to make that comment reduakari?

      My typical complaint of late: the exhibit may well be fine for the animals (although keeping 5 bears together is problematic), but the enclosure design suggests a prison stockade--ugly visible walls and hotwires, with people looking down on the animals. It just looks crude
