Savannah Paddock at Cabarceno, 11/06/15

A view across to the bear enclosure. The paddock holds groups of giraffe, ostrich, and eland along with apparently single individuals of Brindled Gnu and Sable Antelope.

Is this the largest zoo in Europe? The size of the enclosures looks spectacular.

What do you think of this place? The exhibit with the 50 bears is weird, as is mixing Asian water buffalo with African elephants. Is it a good zoo?

The park is 1900 acres/750 ha

Simply impressive, the scale of the park is off the chart, many thanks for the pics maguari, did you see the Somali wild asses?
    • Maguari
On the whole, yes, a very good zoo (in as much as it's possible to compare it to anything else!). Certainly not perfect, though.

Yes, we did - more photos to follow. ;)

Thx matey, coming away from such an assault on all your senses, is there a case it is too big?
(gutted you didn't see the gaur?)

I don't think so. To be honest, it would be a much less remarkable place if it held the same collection in 'normal' enclosures. That said, you do come away feeling like you've got into and out of a car a lot!

Definitely a shame, but with Whipsnade a day trip away I'm sure I'll be able to get over it somehow. :D

This enclosure looks like its just asking to be teeming with more animals than it has presently. Presumably the Gnu and Sable numbers will be ramped up when they can get more. Strange perhaps the zebra are not kept in here also. Due to compatability issues maybe?
    • SivatheriumGuy
@Pertinax They used to keep zebra here but they were moved to the hippo lake for some reason
