Brown bear exhibit no 2

Skanes Animal Park in Sweden, July 2009. Bear enclosure no 2 is much better than no 1 (see pictures from this). However, I believe that no 2 is the “regular” enclosure and that no 1 is only used for a mother with cubs. “No 2” is in no way sensational by modern standards, but still an “OK” exhibit. I would estimate the size to something like 1500+ square meters (slightly less than one half of on acre). Its main disadvantage, just like enclosure no 1, is that the visitors have access to almost all sides of it. Being much bigger though, this is less of a problem.

This exhibit is miles better than some of the junk I've seen in the ZooChat gallery. Bears not begging for food in concrete pits is a wonderful thing, and I like the varied terrain in the enclosure.

      Thanks snowleopard!

      BTW:
An interesting thing that I noticed was that none of the trees were "protected" (by hotwire etc). They seemed to grow just fine anyway...

Actually not supriseing as there are heaps of other things for the bears to focus on. Unlike most other enclosures with hot wired trees. Where the trees are very much a focus.
