Copenhagen Zoo - Caracal

The caracal female in the African Aviaries in Copenhagen Zoo. The aviaries opened in 2004, and are some of the best of the smaller enclosures in the zoo. Taken in Copenhagen Zoo, 2007.

      I watched these cats being fed the other weekend and listened to the keeper´s talk during the feeding event. The caracals are being fed practically every day of the week, I learned. Not so much because they really HAVE to eat each day (which, inte wild, they don´t do, of course), but because it is hard to find enrichment techniques for them. Apparently, these cats have not sas good a smelling sense as other cats, which makes it difficult to enrich them that way.
