Filled-in former exhibits for both species of Hippopotamus. It is a part of the Large Mammal Building in Zoo North, where elephants and giraffes were also kept prior to the opening of Giants of the Savanna.

These used to be the old hippo and pygmy hippo yards/pools now filled in.

Are there any definite plans for this part of the zoo?
    • jbnbsn99
Currently this are is being used for camel rides.

Planning is in the process. You could expect anything from an expanded Asia, to south America and North American exhibits. There will be a definate turn around of ZN though.

Why did Dallas shut down their hippo exhibit? Were they too primitive to try and upgrade, and are there any plans for a new hippo exhibit at some point in the new Africa section?

Hippo exhibits were very primitive and small and wisely it was decided not to bring them back until a new exhibit could be done. As for a new exhibit, I certainly hope so, but you know as much as I do on that.
