Duisburg Zoo - Common wombats

A pair of common wombats digging in the Australian theme in Duisburg Zoo, Germany. Common wombat is a very rare species in Europe.

looks like a hybrid with a porcupine! what is that in the photo?

Looks like it shook the dirt off just as Toddy took the photo! :D

The one at the back has just kicked some dirt out with it's back foot, the dirt has flown straight into the wombat in the foreground and what we can see is the dirt that flew over the top of the wombat. They have no qualms about where the dirt goes or who it hits. Oddly enough, wombats having sand tossed in their face often just stand there thinking about what to do before finally turning away.
