Quite an improvement on what it was like before.

Has there been any further breeding since the two young males(Enzo/Echo) were born?

If not, then that suggests the younger male 'Nasibu' who went to Lisbon, may have been the breeder, not the silverback 'Efata'. The group itself really needs a bit of a changeover perhaps- an additional breeding female or a change of adult male?

A good looking exhibit and a huge improvement on the previous.

Just can't help but wonder ho zoos all over the world insit on keeping the grass short! Surely longer grass would enhance the enrichment potential of scatter feeds.

Its possible this was taken when it was brand new and the grass has grown since,, but yes, longer grass would be a bit more natural.

And not just grass, herbs, vegetables, flowers all things that would enrich the environment for the gorillas.

Since Echo was born 2009 there has been no more babies. It has gone 5 years, hopefully Naomi will be pregnant soon again. Otherwise, some changes will probably be made. There are several scenarios, one in which the older gorillas will be sent away, making room for a new breeding group with Enzo as silverback. If the zoo can find new homes for the other gorillas I think it's the best idea. It means starting from scratch and building up something new. It also means Enzo, the first gorilla born in Sweden, can stay within the zoo. But first of all the zoo has to extend the indoor facilites as well.

And then the grass... most of the exhibith was just mud a few days ago, but the zoo bought grass rolls and covered it with so it will look nice for the big season premiere this thursday. Hopefully it will look better in a few years :)
