Housing various flatfish. The tanks in the background are all for saltwater fish.

Fiskeriets Hus ("The House of Fishery") is an attraction in the small fishing village/surfing resort of Hvide Sande at the Danish west coast. It's mostly a museum for local history, especially fishery and shipping, but it also features a small aquarium in the basement with 32 tanks and (based on my observation) around 50 species. Most of the species are Danish saltwater fish/invertebrates, but they also have a few fish species from the rivers and brooks around Hvide Sande.

The aquarium is very "independent" - all of their fish are wild-caught or bred by themselves, and they don't really cooperate with other aquaria and zoos. They do have a zoo license, though, and the fish generally live in acceptable conditions, if nothing special (the same standards as all of the other small Danish coast aquaria).

      May 2017.

Is the interior of this aquarium as dark as it looks in photos or is this more an effect of the camera?

@PAT Mostly the former. I have a quite old point-and-shoot that isn't the best for taking pictures in dark areas, but it certainly is a dark aquarium with dark tanks.
