      Nice to see these American flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) in an avairy. Fully flighted is always best.

      I can't imagine much flying in such a low aviary, but yes nice they have ability (if not opportunity) to use wings. No doubt helpful for predator control and disease management.

      The ability to use their wings will also help the males when mounting, and help increase ferility within the flock.

      I think they are here first of all due to disease management (recent fears from avian influenza), because their pool (not roofed) in another part of the zoo (according to the zoo map) was empty.

      @Nikola Chavkosk Indeed; they're in this makeshift aviary temporarily, while the bird flu alert is on. This used to be a hoofstock enclosure.

      As of today they are back in their enclosure - there are currently some black-necked swans, screamers and other wildfowl in here.
