giant panda xin xin chapultepec zoo - A recent attempt to artificially inseminate xin xin with panda sperm from China has failed. Xin xin is the offspring of the London zoo male panda Chia Chia. Xin xin does not belong to the Chinese government, but if she had actually become pregnant and delivered a cub, it would eventually have to be sent to China for breeding purposes. It is possible that xin xin is too old to breed and the genetic heritage of Chia chia will be lost forever. What a pity.
Giant pandas arrived from China to Chapultepec zoo on 10th of September of 1975. We now have 40 years of giant pandas residing at chapultepec zoo. 2 female pandas remain, the last pandas in the world not owned by the chinese government.
Are the pandas still a popular attraction at the zoo, or have they been around so long now that they are just another zoo exhibit because everyone is used to seeing them?
40 years after, the giant pandas are still a huge attraction for mexicans and tourists visiting Chapultepec. The 2 elder females are the only giant pandas in all of latin america.
