This looks a fantastic display, has the enclosure been expanded at all or has it been built inside the existing foot print

Very cool. The gorillas obviously approve.

Thanks folks! The footprint is the same as it has been for decades, Head Gorilla Keeper Jonathan Stark wanted to give the group a bit more space by going up vertically, after he and I noted wild gorilla nests over 20m from the ground on a field trip last year.

What you can't see in these pictures, is that the structures go back as far as the preexisting shelter, so technically they could get from end to end without touching the ground. It's also (through routine changes that encourage them to forage on the gym) brought the gorillas into the area opposite our new public amphitheater style seating – they never used to go to that area, because there wasn't any cover, or features there, just a grassy hillock.

The best thing about this project, was that through careful management and the help of the Jersey Field Squadron, it came in well under budget. All in all, it's been a great success.:)

Dam now I really have to go to Jersey! After at least 10 trips to Europe l never factored in Jersey as its a long way to go return for just one zoo! Now will have to come over next year.

Thanks for posting these great pics and congrats for showing what can be done without spending millions!
