Hartebeest, July 2012

Alcelaphus caama I may have been unlucky, but I don't think I've seen the hartebeest here before. This is on the big African enclosure, which is truly wonderful - and not just because of this presence of this fantastic animal.

According to Zootierliste, they no longer keep these. Shame. What happened to them, does anybody know?

Great Photo by the way :)

The last male died last year...

Any plans to source a replacement?

I donĀ“t think there are any plans to import more. It would be too much work to establish a healthy population, and with the lone male at Wroclaw zoo I would call it a phase out. Sad to see such species disappear, though.
