Hoofstock corridor - Belo Horizonte zoo

I think the Belo Horizonte zoo or the São Paulo zoo should keep the herd. As one has already a pair and the other has a place where those magnificent antelope could breed with less difficulties (the zoo's farm, in Araçoiaba da Serra).
    • David Matos Mendes
@Enzo Yes, those would be good options. São Paulo could keep them in the african plain exhibit too. it's also a great enclosure. In case they went to BH, they could be all housed in the old giraffe exhibit, wich already holds zebras and waterbucks.
    • Onychorhynchus coronatus
@Enzo Yes, but it is worth mentioning that CECFAU captive breeding facilities in Araçoiaba da Serra are for endangered native species like the Lear's macaw, pampas cat, giant anteater, maned wolf and of course the buffy tufted marmoset.

I think that the BH zoo would probably be a much better place for all the addax left in Brazil in my opinion.
    • Enzo
CEFCAU is inside the Rural Production Division (the farm). I think there could be some other gemsbok there.

@Onychorhynchus coronatus Oh, yes, indeed it is for the native species... But in the farm itself, wich the CECFAU is inside, could maybe be a nice place too... The grevy zebras made their quarantine period in the zoo's farm when they arrived, for example.

It would be great to have these gemsboks in BH too. As I told Enzo, the old giraffe exhibit, wich already holds waterbucks and a zebra, would be a nice place to hold them as a reproductive group. Gonna send the link of a picture of it that I posted here in zoochat for you guys to check it out. What appears in the picture is one of the two 2500 m2 exhibits that are free for both species to roam between:
Zebra and elipsen-waterbuck paddock - Belo Horizonte zoo - ZooChat

I went there for the first time last Saturday, and I agree with you, the former giraffe paddock would definitely be a nice place to house those gemsbok, along with the plains zebra and the female waterbuck already living there.

@Enzo Great! what did you think about BH zoo? did you have any problem making your reservations?
    • David Matos Mendes
@Enzo There are other waterbucks in there too, they just seem to like being inside the "house". If I'm not wrong, there are two females and a male.
    • Enzo
No, I didn't have any problems with the reservations and it's good to know that the zoo keeps some more waterbuck other than the female previously mentioned. I liked the zoo a lot, but I didn't manage to see the capuchins in time, as the zoo was very big and I went by foot to see the all the animals.
